The American Chemical Society (ACS) is the world’s largest scientific membership association, with a mission to “advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people”.ACS Publications is a Division of the ACS and has all the characteristics of a medium-large scientific and technical publishing organization. It is one of two Divisions charged with serving the dual function of generating a reliable annual surplus to support the Society’s programmatic activities, while also fulfilling a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise.





The Division publishes 85+ high-quality peer-reviewed journals covering the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as numerous other high-quality products and services of benefit to the global community.The Publishing Group consists of six main teams: Business Intelligence & Analytics, Chemical & Engineering News, Global Editorial Operations, Global Editorial Strategy, Global Production Operations, and Strategic Partnerships, China. These teams collaborate to optimize the editorial direction and production of our journals, and to ensure that our authors and reviewers have a positive publishing experience. In support of that mission, the Global Editorial Strategy team focuses on the effective operations and strategic development of the suite of ACS Publications’ journals, both hybrid and open access titles. This team delivers new products on an annual and ongoing basis based on an assessment of the existing portfolio relative to the research landscape.





The Global Editorial Strategy team also provides strategic guidance to ACS Editors-in-Chief to maximize the impact and success of the journals and is central to ensuring the Editors and editorial direction of the journals optimally serve the mission of the ACS.Job DescriptionACS Omega is an established and growing open-access journal dedicated to the rapid publication of scientifically sound results in chemistry and related fields. The Publishing Editor will oversee the day-to-day operation of peer review and the publication processes for submitted articles, maintaining quality and adapting to growth and market demands.ACS Publications is rapidly expanding its global editorial presence in key markets. The ACS Omega Publishing Editors will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting growth phase.





This is an excellent opportunity to work within the American Chemical Society’s dynamic open access team to ensure that ACS Omega remains a leading and respected fully open access journal for chemists. The role will be critical in maintaining the hallmarks of ACS Publications, including rigorous peer review and rapid publication. The incumbents will play a central part of the publishing process by collaborating with editors and authors to manage the peer review of submissions and make recommendations on manuscript suitability for publication. An essential part of the job will be to provide excellent service to authors, reviewers, editors, and the journal. The selected candidates will also work with ACS staff from Production, Marketing, Editorial and Author Services, Digital Strategy,





and Sales to implement the journal’s strategic initiatives.The incumbents will work within a global team of ACS Omega Publishing Editors and report to the Lead Editor, Global Editorial Strategy.Required Skills: A Ph.D. degree in chemistry or allied sciences (e.G., agricultural science, biological sciences, engineering, environmental science, materials science, etc.) is required.Broad subject knowledge in chemistry or allied fields would be an advantage.Ability to relate successfully to a variety of people externally and internally and form effective working relationships with other members of staff, authors, reviewers, and editors.Excellent organizational and time-management skills are required, together with the ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, manage own workload, prioritize,





and meet deadlines.Excellent attention to detail with the ability to make reasoned decisions based on information available.Ability to select the best content for additional promotion through social media, press releases, or similar.Fluency in English with good verbal and written communication skills (good use of language, grammar, and syntax).Preferred Experience: 1-3 years’ experience in STM publishing, along with an understanding of open access, copyright, licenses, and publication ethics.Experience in using computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and slide preparation for presentations.Travel Expectations:Travel expectations may include in-country travel for events and activities and occasional international travel for meetings.Additional Requirements:ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule,





consisting of working onsite in the ACS International office, New Delhi, two days per week. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other three days of the week from a location of their choice.
