Job Overview: The Academic Counselor for Distance/Online Education will be responsible for guiding and supporting prospective and current students through the online learning process. The role involves advising students on course selection, understanding their academic needs, and providing them with resources to succeed in an online environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of online education platforms, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping students achieve their academic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Student Advising:
o Provide personalized academic counseling to prospective and current students regarding course selection, degree requirements, and career paths.
o Assist students in understanding the online learning environment, including the use of the learning management system (LMS) and other digital tools.
o Address students’ academic challenges and offer solutions or refer them to appropriate support services.
2. Enrollment Support:
• Guide prospective students through the enrollment process, including application, registration, and financial aid.
• Conduct informational sessions and webinars for prospective students to explain program offerings and benefits.
• Assist with the evaluation of transfer credits and prior learning assessments.
3. Administrative Duties:
• Maintain accurate student records and documentation of advising sessions.
• Track and report on student retention, academic progress, and other key metrics.
• Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in online education.
4. Preferred Skills:
• Familiarity with student information systems and advising tools.
• Experience with student retention and engagement strategies in an online learning context.
• Knowledge of career counseling and job placement services.
• Strong understanding of online education platforms and learning management systems (LMS).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
