The Deputy Manager of Coding Services (SG26) provides long term strategic and daily operational management of the Organization in close collaboration with the Manager/Sr Manager of Coding QA and Audit, Production, and the client Manager of Coding Quality.
Position in this function is responsible to ensure that the coding staff is coding at maximum utilization (production coding and/or shadow coding throughout the workday) according to the corporate coding policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements and official coding guidelines.
The role of the Coding Deputy Manager includes establishing and maintaining standards of professional competence and excellence meeting or exceeding the Optum and Client productivity standards while meeting the 95% coding accuracy rate.
In order to meet DNFB goal the DM is to proactively initiate and coordinate the mentoring of newer Coders with focus of efficiently navigating through a wide variety of medical records while providing on-going coding education and training for new coding staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day activities of the team members
- Coaches, motivate, guides team members and provide front-line supervision
- Conducts performance reviews and developmental programs of the team members
- Plans and delegates or allocates work of the team in coding process
- Monitor and ensure standards on productivity, service delivery and overall results of the Coding Teams. Monitors daily progress/status and makes adjustments/corrections to ensure optimal performance and service. Ensures teams are meeting and exceeding contractual and service level obligations to customer
- Resolves or address the issues elevated by team members
- Applies research,
information gathering and analytical skills to complex activities and issues
- Assess accuracy and adherence to process guidelines
- Tracks and maintains regular and ad hoc reports
- Provides expertise and guidance on technical or procedural issues. Develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures, guidelines and compliance plan for coding
- Provides recommendations for improvement in coding process for continuous quality improvement
- Develops tactical plans, schedules, and key milestones
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment,
alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so
Required Qualifications:
- CCS/ CPC Certification
- 8+ years of experience in Medical Coding with graduation degree
- Prior team handling experience
- Knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Proficient in coding all outpatient type charts
- Proven ability to take direction from all levels
- Proven ability to exhibit a high level of individual initiative
- Proven ability to effectively lead a team environment
- Proven good problem-solving skills and excellent oral &written; communication skills
- Proven ability to work from basic coding requirements and specifications
- Proven ability to translate client requirements into plan for effective implementation and management of coding standards
- Proven ability to take direction from senior management levels and device plans and execute to produce the intended results
- Proven ability to meet agreed upon SLA's (Productivity & Quality related)
